What to do When Experiencing Leg Vein Pain

Pain that is caused by the veins on the legs is usually due to a condition known as varices. This condition occurs mainly in the lower legs and happens when blood becomes trapped as a result of failing valves. These valves stop blood from flowing backwards, and when the fail, the body struggles to pump blood against gravity, up towards the heart.

There are a few other things that can cause this condition. Things such as obesity and bad health, genetics, pregnancy and standing for extended periods at a time. It isn’t an uncommon or health detrimental thing but the appearance of the inflamed area can bring on insecurities and a lot of discomfort for the host.

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways that one suffering from this can work to ease both the pain and appearance in the comfort of their own homes. This article will provide a few of these ways and also give a bit of explanation of the leg vein surgery procedure.

  1. Elevating the Legs

Gravity is a big contributing factor to this condition. The blood in the lower legs is the furthest away from the heart and so the body struggles to work against gravity to pump blood upwards. Elevating the legs helps to counteract gravity and allows blood to flow easier through the system.

Another thing to mention is that crossing the legs can also play a part in worsening the condition as it cuts off the circulation. If it isn’t possible to elevate the legs while in resting position, try to restrain from crossing them.

  1. Regular Exercise & Good Nutrition

Contrary to popular belief, regular (but light, nothing too intense) exercise can be seriously beneficial for someone trying to get rid of or lessen the affects. A daily walk of up to 2 or 3 kilometers will significantly improve the circulation of blood. It will also help to reduce any excessive body fat that is putting unnecessary pressure on the legs.

Along with regular exercise, good nutrition is just as important to consider. Consuming foods that are high in sugar and saturated fats puts immense pressure on the body. This makes it very difficult for the heart to pump blood properly around the body. Vitamin rich foods such as vegetables and fruits will allow the heart to function properly and generally make one feel good.

  1. Leg Vein Surgery

Although In most cases, this condition is not a major health hazard, the appearance and pain it causes is enough to drive anyone mad. When all other home remedies and suggested solutions fail, undergoing surgery to remove them is one of the last options. Leg laser vein surgery has two different techniques to remove the affected area.

The more common one is referred to as ‘ligation’ and ‘stripping’ is an easy and straight-forward procedure. It is done using local anesthetic so the patient is asleep the whole time. The surgeon begins by administering the anesthetic and once the patient is asleep, will cut and tie off the affected area, this is the litigation part.

The stripping part requires a slender tool and steady hand to ‘reach in’ through a tiny incision. A second incision is made and the same hook like tool is used to retrieve or remove the vein through this incision.

The other technique is phlebotomy and is generally the same thing except, multiple tiny incisions are made and the vein is removed through these incisions using a special hook.

As mentioned, it is mainly the appearance and pain of this condition that causes the most strife for the host. When experiencing major discomfort, it is always a good idea to try to remove the problem before it gets any worse and potentially lead to something more serious.
